Brief Introduction about SAP




SAP AG (German: Systeme, Anwendungen, Produkte / English: Systems, Applications, Products in Data Processing) was founded in 1972 by five former IBM employees. Today, SAP is the third-largest independent software vendor. SAP’s head office is located in Walldorf, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
The company has developed several independent software products to help business better meet their customer needs [enterprise resource planning] an application systems and management known as (SAP ERP), its enterprise data warehouse product – SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW), Materials Management [MM] module software, a Sales and Distribution [SD] application that aids the company in adding customer sales transactions, Controlling [CO] module when a company needs internal reporting. All of these software applications can be purchased à la carte or in a software package know as SAP Enterprise Central Component [ECC] system. A new feature recently added to the SAP functionality is Sybase mobile products and the in-memory computing appliance SAP HANA that allows users to access SAP on their mobile device.
In 2011, SAP generated a provisional turnover of 14.232 billion Euros. SAP AG is listed at diverse stock exchanges, e.g., DAX and NYSE. SAP services 183.000 customers with numer-ous installations of SAP products. 12 million users in more than 120 countries use SAP products in 28 different languages. SAP applications and services enable more than 183,000 cus-tomers worldwide to operate profitably, adapt continuously and grow sustainably. With over 2.900 certified Partners and more than 25 business solutions and industry solutions, e.g., for automotive and pharmaceutical businesses, SAP helps companies of all sizes and industries run better.
